ICYMI: Razer buys THX
October 20, 2016

What does mean for the company originally founded by George Lucas.

I’m sure you’ve seen one of those THX-branded trailers that featured the signature deep note tone. The company, which is was founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, aimed to develop the best solutions in terms of audio and video entertainment.

A recent blogpost by current THX CEO Ty Ahmad-Taylor officially announced that gaming brand Razer has purchased the company, but mentioned that THX will still operate independently as it was before. But the acquisition also means that THX will soon start certifying more devices like Bluetooth speakers, set-top boxes and the like.

“We now have the resources of the most popular gaming hardware company in the world as our corporate parent. We have three lines of business: Certification (ensuring the highest audio-visual quality of products), THX Live! (optimizing other’s systems) and THX Inside (using our core technologies in partner products.),” said in a blog post.

THX’s CEO said that they sold THX because Razer gives them ‘a rock-solid foundation for executing on the three core areas of business.’

Admad-Taylor will now be reporting to Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan and also confirmed that they will be releasing a few products in the future that will be under the Razer brand.
