It’s their one year anniversary.
That was fast. It’s been exactly a year since Instagram Stories was introduced by the platform as a way to bring in more users. While users instantly noticed the blatant copying of Snapchat’s main features, it somehow paid off with 250 million users actively using the feature.
“A year ago today, we brought stories to Instagram and quickly saw a shift in how people share their everyday experiences with their friends and followers,” the company said in a blog post. True to that statement, Instagram Stories turned out to be one of the most popular ways for people to share their status updates – even beating Snapchat in the process.
It was also revealed that more than half of registered business accounts are already using Instagram Stories. The service has also gotten new features over the course of the year since it was introduced, including stickers and other filters.
Instagram Stories is part of the Instagram app, which is free to download on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
