The remake has now sold over 3 million copies!
It may only be a remake, but Resident Evil 2 has already sold more than 3 million copies worldwide according to Capcom. These numbers include the game on all platforms it was released on: Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC – it wasn’t revealed on which platform it has sold the most copies.
Adding the total number of units sold including the original 1996 game, Resident Evil 2 now stands at 88 million copies. The original game has sold 4.96 million copies, which is the fourth best-selling title in the franchise.
“More than 20 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe make it Capcom’s flagship game series,” said the company in a press release. “With Resident Evil 7: Biohazard having now gone on to sell a cumulative 6 million units, Capcom looks to achieve similar, long-term sales for Resident Evil 2 as well.”
Reviews for the remake of Resident Evil 2 have mostly been positive, praising the upgraded graphics and gameplay and maintaining the same scary horror survival aspect that made the original sequel a hit.
