A mighty feat for Sony’s console.
The PlayStation 4 maybe 5 years old already, but its popularity won’t be diminished anytime soon. This was proven after holiday sales pushed Sony’s console to a record of 91.6 million units sold since it went on sale in 2013.
“Thanks to the continued support from our fans during the holiday season, we are pleased to announce that PS4 has reached 91.6 million units globally. We are also happy to announce that the monthly active users of PlayStation Network continues to show strong growth, and has surpassed 90 million as of the end of November 2018,” said John Kodera, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment in a statement.
From that figure, more than 5.6 million PS4s were sold last holiday season, easily making one of the best-selling consoles in its generation.
As for the games, more than 50.7 million PlayStation 4 games have already been sold, totaling more than 876 million since the console’s launch.
Sony Interactive Entertainment also highlighted the PlayStation exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man, which is now the console’s fastest-selling exclusive of all time and has now sold over 9 million units.
2019 should bring in more revenue for the PlayStation 4, especially with the upcoming exclusives.
