Game On: We’re excited about Half-Life: Alyx, even if it’s not the game we expected

November 24, 2019

The VR exclusive game arrives in March 2020.

2007 was the year when we last saw a Half-Life game – that was thirteen years ago. Despite everyone clamoring Valve to make another game, the company has been mostly quiet about it, until now.

Half-Life: Alyx debuted an announcement trailer just this weekend to the excitement of everyone – but it’s a VR exclusive, meaning that you would be needing a VR headset to play it. This means that you would have to shelve extra cash to enjoy the next Half-Life game if you don’t already have one.

Half-Life: Alyx takes place between the first and the second game, where Alyx and her father Eli are currently amassing resistance on the aliens that have occupied our planet. The VR experience will put you in Alyx’s shoes – or gloves in this instance.

Despite some doubts, the makers of the Valve insist that this is really the next part of the Half-Life franchise, which is being claimed to be as long as Half-Life 2. That being said, there should be a couple of disappointed gamers that don’t prefer VR as a platform to play the game.

Still, Valve says that Half-Life: Alyx won’t just be limited to the HTC Vive, meaning that you will be able to play the game on an Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest and even the Windows Mixed Reality headsets from Microsoft.

“Everyone at Valve is excited to be returning to the world of Half-Life”, says Valve founder Gabe Newell. “VR has energized us. We’ve invested a lot of ourselves in the technology. But we’re also game developers at heart, and to be devoting ourselves to a VR game this ambitious is just as exciting. For that to come in the form of Half-Life feels like the culmination of a lot of things we care a lot about: truly great games, cutting edge technology, and open platforms. We can’t wait for people to experience this.”

We’re excited that’s for sure, and that gives us time to save up and purchase a VR headset so we can play Half-Life: Alyx. Watch the trailer below and tell us what you think:
