A whole new way to play the game.

Microsoft has just started teasing a new mode coming to Minecraft – Augmented Reality. In the video posted above, it showcased how playing Minecraft in AR can bring a whole new way of playing the popular game. It’s played on a smartphone, so expect the AR version of Minecraft to arrive on iOS and Android devices.

The popularity of AR-based games has just started – if you remember, games like Pokemon Go was downloaded millions of times and the resulting revenue reached into the billions. It looks like Microsoft wants a piece of the action with Minecraft.

While not much is revealed, Microsoft will officially unveil Minecraft AR on May 17th, which is also the 10-year anniversary of the game. Microsoft has also previously demoed the game using their HoloLens headset, though it was never meant to be released to the public.
