To be replaced by a subscription service.
Nintendo has announced that by September of this year, Switch users will no longer be able to play multiplayer sessions for free. If you want to play online, you will need to purchase a subscription that can be paid monthly or yearly.
Nintendo already said that a paid online service is due to happen after the release of the Switch. This is the company’s answer to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live which are both paid services that let you enjoy online multiplayer games along with benefits of getting free games every month.
That means that Nintendo will also include free games as part of the service, this may include Retro games along with titles previously released for the Switch.
Nintendo’s subscription service will cost $3.99 for a monthly plan and $19.99 for a yearly plan.
