Netflix competitor launches later this year
The highly-anticipated Disney+ is launching later this year, and with it will come a vast library of Disney content that was only previously available on services like Netflix or Starz Play. While Netflix has already made its mark by producing its own shows and movies which have won awards, there’s a good chance that Disney+ might steal its thunder when it launches.
Details for Disney+ are still scarce at the moment, but here are 7 reasons why this streaming service will be worth the wait.
The entire Disney library – Disney+ will be the first streaming service that will house the entire Walt Disney animation library. This includes all the feature films from 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs up until its latest release, 2018’s Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Disney+ will also include all the short films from the world of Mickey Mouse and his friends, including the original Steamboat Willie short where Mickey made his first appearance.
Also, expect the older Disney-produced TV shows to become available, and will hopefully make you feel like a child again.
Original content – Just like Netflix, Disney+ will also house original content that includes TV shows based on Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
You may have already gotten a glimpse of The Mandalorian, a story about a bounty hunter that takes place in the Star Wars universe.
Another rumored project includes a series of shows that will feature MCU characters such as Loki, Scarlett Witch, Vision, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier.
Marvel Studios – Also expect the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to be available on Disney+. Everything from 2008’s Iron Man to this year’s Avengers: Endgame should be available to stream after it hits theaters.
It won’t just be restricted to movies as well, expect all the ‘One Shot’ short films to also be available, along with the hit series Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter all available to stream on demand.
Star Wars/Lucasfilm – Since someone else still owns the broadcasting rights to the first Star Wars movies, it won’t be immediately available on Disney+. Still, expect the entire Skywalker saga to be available on the platform including the aforementioned TV shows and even the plethora of animated series and shorts.
Pixar – Of course, it won’t be Disney+ if it doesn’t include Pixar’s library of family-friendly films. Expect every Pixar movie to be available to stream along with their award-winning short films.
Family-friendly – Since it’s Disney, Disney+ will feature all family-friendly content, so don’t expect any R-rated shows or movies.
The price – While this detail is still up in the air, previous reports said that Disney+ will only cost $7 per month, compare that to Netflix that charges more than double for its most premium subscription.
At the moment, we’re still also unsure if Disney+ will be available worldwide or if it will launch in the US first. Still, Disney+ has a lot of content to launch its own streaming platform and we may have to wait and see how competing services will fight to be the best one.
