Konami has announced a new PES game, predictably PES 2016, with Neymar Jr. as the cover star.

According to a press release, Neymar had been chosen because of his most successful season to day; winning La Liga and Copa Del Rey with him scoring the final, as well as the UEFA Champions League.

The 23-year-old captain of his national team Brazil, does split the footballing crowd, but there is no denying he is a talent when he is not diving.

“This is a real honor for me to be cover star for PES 2016″ commented Neymar Jr. “The series has long been praised for its sheer level of control and utter realism and I am delighted to be working with such a talented team as Konami. I am fascinated by the huge amount of work involved in putting together the game and ensuring the world’s top players look and play just like the real things, and cannot wait to see myself in action as soon as possible.”

The franchise has seen a return to form with last year’s instalment bringing back much of the loved game mechanics which had been lost. The reboot has meant the PES is now a real contender for FIFA again, and might even be en route to steal the crown back again soon in the next few years.

PES will be officially announced on 12 June. We’ll have more information as it breaks.
