What is your favorite James Bond gadget?
Spectre is showing in a few days and the anticipation is building for James Bond’s next adventure. This movie is the 24th James Bond film overall which started with 1962’s Dr. No.
The series also saw various fun and sometimes hilarious gadgetry that only James Bond can make look classy. In celebration of the next James Bond film, let’s take a look at some of the amazing gadgets that were showcased in the film.
The Ring (Die Another Day) – Its simplicity is what makes this one of the most awesome gadgets. This ring – or the ultra high-frequency single digit sonic agitator unit, emits a high frequency noise than break even the most unbreakable glass.
Explosive Pen (GoldenEye) – This Parker pen is actually a Class 4 grenade. Three clicks will arm the four second fuse, and another three clicks will disarm it. Simple, clever and deadly.
Bowler Hat (Goldfinger) – Worn by Oddjob, one of Auric Goldfinger’s henchmen, he owns this bowler hat that has a razoe edge. Since he is also an expert with a bow and arrow, he can throw this hat with pinpoint accuracy.
Bagpipe Flamethrower (The World is Not Enough) – A guy playing the bagpipe – looks harmless right? Not if it’s a James Bond film. This particular henchman has bagpipes as a weapon. You know, the kind that has machine guns and can work as a flamethrower – nothing fancy.
Crocodile Submarine (Octopussy) – While it may look funny now, this one person crocodile submarine from Octopussy actually is one of the most genius devices that was showcased in the James Bond franchise.
Lotus Esprit (The Spy Who Loved Me) – One of the most popular James Bond vehicles is the Lotus Esprit. Packed with various gadgets and weaponry, this vehicle is amphibious as it’s usable on both land and sea.
Omega Seamaster (GoldenEye) – Other than it can remotely arm a bomb, this is actually one beautiful watch. It made its debut in 1995’s Goldeneye, and has been James Bond’s choice of time piece.
BMW 750iL (Tomorrow Never Dies) – Everyone loves a BMW. Since it’s a James Bond movie it has to be a special one. This particular BMW 750iL can be remotely controlled by a mobile phone. Funny thing is that while it was amazing at the time when it was shown, today companies have already developed similar car technologies like remote driving.
Bill-Trexton Jetpack (Thunderball) – This Sean Connery classic features on my favorite gadgets of all time. It’s a Jetpack – how awesome can that get? A similar jetpack was also used in Kick-Ass, but this one from Thunderball look more well, kick-ass.
Aston Martin ‘Vanish’ (Die Another Day) – The Aston Martin Vanquish got a slight feature upgrade in Die Another Day. Using Adaptive Camouflage technology, it uses mirrors to reflect its surroundings to make the vehicle ‘vanish’.
