Are you excited for the live-action movie?

The live-action remake of The Lion King opens this week, and with much anticipation thanks to the gorgeous animation and its voice cast, it looks like it will be another box office hit like the original.

But before you head out and see the movie, have a look at some interesting facts about the movie that you should know:

James Earl Jones is the only cast member to return and voice the same character. He’s the voice of Mufasa in the 1994 animated movie and has come back for this live-action remake.

Hans Zimmer, Tim Rice, and Elton John, who famously wrote the music for the 1994 movie, are all coming back to redo previous music and even write new songs for the movie.

While traditional voice acting meant that all lines are recorded separately, both Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen (who play Timon and Pumbaa respectively) recorded their lines at the same time.

Jon Favreau directs the movie – he also directed the live-action remake of The Jungle Book in 2016. In case you don’t remember, he also made Iron Man and Iron Man 2, along with playing Happy Hogan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Lion King is the third of four live-action remakes released by Disney this year. Dumbo opened last March followed by Aladdin in May with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opening in October.

The movie may be live-action, but the entire movie is completely computer generated.

IMDB states that Benedict Cumberbatch originally was eyed to voice Scar, but he turned it down before Chiwetel Ejiofor took over. Both were in the movie Doctor Strange.

John Kani (voice of Rafiki) and Florence Kasumba (voice of Shenzi) were both part of the cast of Black Panther, playing T’Challa’s father T’Chaka and as Ayo respectively.

Beyonce recorded a new song called Spirit that will be part of the movie’s soundtrack and will also be sung in the movie.

The Lion King releases on the 25th anniversary of the original animated movie which was released in 1994.

The Lion King opens in UAE cinemas on July 18th.
