You can now play Angry Birds in AR

March 20, 2019

New game will be coming exclusively to iOS.

Ask any mobile phone user about Angry Birds and there’s a good chance that they’ve installed one of its many installments on their device. The hit game went to become a global multi-million dollar franchise that includes merchandise and even a feature film (that’s already getting a sequel).

Despite the Angry Birds fever dying down, its creator Rovio is still looking for ways to make the game enjoyable for new users. This is where Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs comes in.

Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs plays much like the original game, but you can now take advantage of a more immersive experience thanks to augmented reality (AR). This means that you can use your smartphone camera to move around a three-dimensional space so you can position your birds and start attacking those nasty pigs.

This AR game was made possible thanks to ARKit, a staple part of iOS dedicated to making AR experiences more immersive. This also means that Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs is currently available on newer iOS devices, though we won’t be surprised if an Android version also gets released.

Angry Birds AR: Isle of Pigs will launch with 40 levels and has a scheduled release date on April 11th, 2019. It’s a free-to-play title, which of course will include in-app purchases.
