The iPhone-only app is an ‘audio-only’ social network.
In the past weeks, Clubhouse has been making the headlines as the new must-have app to have on your smartphone. But there’s a catch, Clubhouse is only available on the iPhone (for now) and access is by invite-only. It’s basically an audio-based social network where you get to listen in on other people’s conversations.
Don’t worry though as these conversations can be listened to legally – and the people talking would want you to hear it. You can listen in on conversations and may even get the chance to join in. The catch though is that you will only get invited to sign up. That is Clubhouse’s policy at the moment, and existing members will have two invites that they can give away.
If you get lucky and get access, Clubhouse offers different topics for you to follow. This ranges from sports to tech to movies and you’ll get the opportunity to listen in and find people with similar interests. It is worth noting that these conversations aren’t permanent and will disappear once the moderator ends it. Each conversation is able to hold up to 5,000 people.
It may be similar to a podcast, but the promise of Clubhouse is a full-on conversation with everyone. It even became more popular as celebrities like Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, and Elon Musk all joined conversations.
It is still in its early stages, and despite the positive things we’ve been hearing about Clubhouse it is already facing criticisms with some conversations about abuse and hate speech, to which it said it will closely monitor.
If you’re lucky enough to get an invite, you can download Clubhouse for free.
