Predators steal the limelight at Next@Acer!

May 24, 2018

Next@Acer marks that time of the year when the Taiwanese brand showcases the most exciting products coming up, in turn giving us an inking of what their key focus points are.

At the onset of his presentation, CEO Jason Chen reiterated how gaming in many ways had reinvigorated the company, with a 94% YoY growth. So needless to add, the Predator line, special editions included, were the highlight.

Acer Predator X

Think of it as going monstrous levels of power, and topping that 4 times over. This gaming desktop that borrows the typical workstation two-socket design to utilize not one, but two Xeon processors. With those two enterprise-grade processors in tow, the Predator X is much more of a workstation that an ultra-high-end gaming PC.

Whereas the Predator Orion 9000 employed an 18-core Intel Core i9-7980XE processor, the current highest end Xeon chip, here we are talking features 24 processor cores. In other words, the Predator X could be powered by up to 48 processor cores.

Predator Orion 5000 and 3000 desktop PCs

Coming to the Acer Predator Orion 5000, the gaming desktops feature up to 8th Gen Intel Core i7+ 8700K processors paired with the latest Intel Z370 SoC, up to 32GB of Intel Optane memory, and up to 2-way Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPUs. IceTunnel 2.0 airflow management design segments the system into different thermal zones and provides each sector with its own airflow tunnel to expel heat. Additional features include Killer LAN high-speed Ethernet, cradles for audio headsets and a carry-handle for portability.

The Helios 300 Special Edition

Rather posh, this one, the Helios 300 Special Edition’s white finish is complemented by gold, with the rear logo and hinge all finished in the soft shade. This extends over the W, A, S and D keys too. The Rolltop Jr backpack, Galea 500 headset, Cestus 510 mouse, and the Fabric Mousepad all get the white and gold treatment.

Predator Helios 500

Highly recommended by Acer for gaming with graphic-intensive AAA titles and live streaming, the Predator Helios 500 features up to 8th-generation Intel Core i9+ processors and GeForce GTX 1070 graphics. It comes with Intel Optane memory, NVMePCIe SSDs, Killer DoubleShot Pro, and up to 64GB of RAM. It features 4K Ultra-HD or full-HD IPS 17.3-inch displays with 144Hz refresh rates. Also Nvidia G-Sync technology is supported on both the inbuilt display and external monitors. It has dual Thunderbolt 3 ports and HDMI 2.0 ports support up to three external monitors. Additionally, there are two speakers, a subwoofer, and it supports Acer TrueHarmony and Waves MAXXAudio technology. The Helios 500 is equipped with two of Acer’s proprietary AeroBlade 3D metal fans, and five heat pipes that distribute cool air to the machine’s key components while simultaneously releasing hot air.

Going all out on the accessories

We had that exciting VR case last year, and now Acer have expanded its gaming accessory line with devices like the Predator Cestus 510 gaming mouse, Predator Gaming Chair, a Predator Hard Case, Predator Aethos 500 mechanical keyboard and a Predator Mousepad which changes colors according to the game scenarios.
