Mr. Pablo Ning, Vice President of Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia said: “As we enter the age of intelligence, AI is no longer a virtual concept but something that intertwines with our daily life. AI can enhance user experience, provide valuable services and improve product performance”. He added: “The HUAWEI Mate 10 Series introduces the first mobile AI-specific Neural Network Processing Unit, launching a new era of intelligent smartphones.”
Mate 10 sales target
For Huawei’s sales target for the Mate 10 & Mate 10 Pro, Pablo commented: “these devices are a groundbreaking smartphones powered by the most innovative AI technology. We expect significant demand from consumers who want the latest technology. From 2010 to 2016, Huawei increased smartphone shipments every year from three million to 20 million to 32 million to 52 million to 75 million to 108 million to 139 million in 2016. This demonstrates Huawei’s increasing brand recognition. We are excited about our 2017 performance and will share these results at a later date”.
What level is Huawei’s AI technology? How does Huawei think about the so-called negative aspects of AI technology? Pablo mentioned that Huawei’s mobile AI strategy is about leveraging the latest AI innovations and Kirin 970’s native processing capabilities to deliver the best performance and the most relevant experience for users. The aim is to deliver this strategy in the most efficient way with on-device AI processing in order to ensure an experience with less latency, less power consumption, no network dependence and more privacy”. He added: “In terms of mobile AI capabilities, Huawei is leading the smartphone industry with China at the forefront of world class AI development and its world’s first NPU built-in AI chipset. AI technology is complicated and has several branches, including its use in mobile, as well as in big data and robotics. Different types of AI technology may impact respective industries differently and both businesses and governments need to collaborate to set rules and boundaries for AI to better serve human needs, reducing any potential negative impact.
He added on this regard: “By combining the power of the cloud with the speed and responsiveness of native AI processing, Huawei is bringing AI experiences to life and changing the way we interact with our devices. As we look to the future of smartphones, we’re at the threshold of an exciting new era. Mobile AI = On-Device AI + Cloud AI. Huawei is committed to developing smart devices into intelligent devices by building end-to-end capabilities that support coordinated development of chips, devices, and the cloud. The ultimate goal is to provide a significantly better user experience. The Kirin 970 is the first in a series of new advances that will bring powerful AI features to our devices and take them beyond the competition. After years of development, Cloud AI has seen broad application, but user experience still has room for improvement, including latency, stability, and privacy. Cloud AI and On-Device AI can complement each other. On-Device AI offers strong sensing capabilities, which are the foundation of understanding and assisting people. Sensors produce a large amount of real-time, scenario-specific, and personalized data. Supported by strong chip processing capabilities, devices will become more cognitive of user needs, providing truly personalized and readily accessible services”.
Pablo said: “The specialized NPU, combined with Huawei’s innovative AI mobile computing architecture, means the Kirin 970 delivers 25x better performance and 50x greater energy efficiency for AI-related tasks, compared to four Cortex-A73 cores. The HUAWEI Mate Series is also the world’s fastest smartphone supporting super-fast LTE connectivity and download speeds. The device comes with the world’s first dual 4G SIM support and dual VoLTE connections”.
“Huawei also listened to users’ needs and developed a new series of Huawei MateBook devices in three main categories: MateBook X, MateBook E and MateBook D. The new series introduces the latest innovations and features that redefine the benefits of mobile devices and PC technologies into one integrated device”.
