Instagram is one of the most popular social networking platforms available – that also means it’s one of the platforms where online bullying is prevalent. This may be in the form of comments or images that uses leave on posts that aim to annoy or degrade the person.

Luckily, Instagram has already started introducing tools to curb this behavior and today, it’s enhancing those tools to lessen and hopefully stop bullying behavior. A new AI-powered tool will now detect if a person leaving a post may be considered offensive and will give you a notification before it is posted. This small intervention aims to help people reflect on what they’ve just said with the option of undoing it. Instagram said that early tests were positive – where people have been encouraged to delete their posts before it hurts someone.

Additionally, another tool is being introduced where you can restrict someone from your profile. This was done because some users are usually hesitant in blocking or unfollowing someone especially when they deal with that person in real life. Once you restrict a person, whatever comments they put on their profile will only be visible to them plus you have the option to delete the comment. Restricted users also won’t see if you’re active on Instagram nor they can see if their messages have been read.

“It’s our responsibility to create a safe environment on Instagram. This has been an important priority for us for some time, and we are continuing to invest in better understanding and tackling this problem,” Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram said in a post.

The new updates will start rolling out soon to all users worldwide.
