We talk to Linksys at GITEX 2018 who is showcasing its current line of networking devices.

We’ve always come to know Linksys as a networking company. But in the last few years, the company has shifted from providing more than just the standard array of networking devices and is now tapping into the different area including the Internet of Things (IoT).

Linksys’ entire lineup of devices and solutions are all on display during GITEX 2018. “It’s an opportunity for us to showcase our entire portfolio of devices that range from the Velop line of mesh routers to new cloud solutions of businesses,” said Amanulla Khan, Managing Director Linksys Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

Khan also highlighted a new cloud solution named Cloud Manager that’s purpose-built for SMEs. “With Cloud Manager, we didn’t just take an enterprise solution and removed some features nor we have taken our consumer solution and stretch those features to fit SMEs, everything was completely built from the ground up – and the best thing is that this solution doesn’t include expensive hardware.”

Cloud Manager aims to provide a solution that fits well with SMEs: decent feature set without a high price. While normal cloud solutions would normally need yearly license renewals, Linksys’ solution is valid for five years which would ease the expenses that are usually the request by most SMEs. Cloud Manager also requires zero-touch provision, meaning that there’s no need for any complicated management skills. Since it’s cloud-based, you can literally manage your network anytime, anywhere.

Security also comes into question especially for cloud-based services, but Linksys isn’t worried. “It’s 100 percent secure,” said Khan. “We do security audits regularly and we use Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure which also have their own vulnerability testing where they make sure data stored on their servers is safe.”

Phyn is also one of the new devices being showcased by Linksys. It’s a smart water monitoring system that you install on your main pipe where it can intelligently detect leaks with unmatched accuracy and reliability.

Other products, such as our personal favorite the Linksys Velop, that now comes in a more affordable dual-band version, were present on the Linksys stand.

But it doesn’t stop there, Linksys is committed to bringing more networking solutions in the future – and may have to wait until next year to see what they are.
