MEFCC 2020: Top 10 Things to Check Out
March 1, 2020

The Middle East Film & Comic Con returns this weekend.

Now on its 9th year, the Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) is once again opening its doors to all pop culture fanatics. The action-packed event will see fans from across the region celebrate everything from comic books to anime along with interacting with local talent and some Hollywood celebrities.

Here are the top 10 things you can expect from this year’s MEFCC:

Meet the stars

Just like previous iterations of MEFCC, fans will get a chance to do a meet-and-greet with various celebrities during the con. Celebrities attending MEFCC 2020 will include Mena Massoud, last seen during last year’s live-action remake of Aladdin. There’s also Brandon Routh, who played the Man of Steel in Superman Returns. Joining them are Red Witch Carice Van Houten from Game of Thrones, Elodie Yung who played femme fatale Electra from Netflix’s Daredevil, and John Rhys-Davies, who’s better known as dwarf warrior Gimli from The Lord of the Rings.

Be Part of Exclusive Premieres

MEFCC will also host various screenings which include a peek at Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna before it opens in cinemas later this year. Families who hold a family pass can also get a chance to watch Onward at the MEFCC Theater.

Something for the Little Ones

Kids will also get a chance to watch Cartoon Network Originals, some of which will only be seen at MEFCC. Parents are encouraged to dress up their kids where they can participate in the Kids’ cosplay competition.

Geek Out on Geeky Merchandise

MEFCC will also see various retailers selling some awesome collectibles, where exhibitors such as Party Centre, Geek Nation, and Otaku ME will have their own booths where you can buy all the geeky stuff you can think of. Bandai Namco will also bring back Captain Tsubasa with an arcade twist, marking the first time the game will be released outside of Japan.

It won’t be MEFCC without a cosplay competition. Watch cosplayers bring their A-game dressing up as different comic book heroes, anime characters or even movie characters where the winner will have the chance to compete in the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) in Japan.

Live Entertainment

Celebrities and performers such as J Trina, the Emirati Japanese Drummer Group, the UAE’s local comedy pioneers, and Dubomedy will all be present at the MEFCC stage to entertain visitors.

Pop culture fans who want to develop their skill can attend one of the many MEFCC workshops. This will be hosted by world-renowned artists like Sam De La Rosa (Spider-Man and Venom), Jeremy Clark (The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), D. Michael Watkins (Iron Man and Transformers), and Mostafa Moussa (Godzilla and Batman).

Artist’s Alley

MEFCC is also the place where you will get to meet local talent from the region. You can check out various displays of sketches and art that you can also purchase.

A MEFCC Staycation

In partnership with Rove Downtown, you can purchase a special Weekend Hotel Package for two. The bundle will include two Bronze VIP tickets to MEFCC along with a meet and greet voucher plus a two-night stay at Rove Downtown that includes breakfast.

Limited Editions

Of course, MEFCC is also the place where you can purchase and collect various limited-edition merchandise from comic books to accessories. It’s the one place where you can celebrate your favorite games, movies, and comic books and meet other like-minded fans.

The Middle East Film & Comic Con takes place this weekend (March 5-7, 2020) at the Dubai World Trade Center.
