Avengers: Endgame opens this week and we’re rounding off the best moments from each of the past 21 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that started 11 years ago in May of 2008 – yes, we feel old too.
The entire MCU had its ups and downs, but you can definitely agree that in recent years, Marvel Studios has figured out how to showcase a superior story without compromising on the action and even the humor.
We’ve got 21 movies to go through so let’s start with the first 10 MCU movies:
Iron Man – Escape from the cave
Even if it didn’t have the signature red and gold trim on its upgraded versions, the Mark 1 suit is still a favorite. Even the scenes on the cave already showcased how awesome this suit will become, making it our favorite moments from the first MCU movie.
The Incredible Hulk – Hulk smash!
Despite some flaws, the fact that they’ve tied this to the MCU along with making Hulk say his signature ‘Hulk smash’ line made this movie even better.
Iron Man 2 – The suitcase armor
Despite a weak villain, the showcase of Tony Stark’s genius is shown in the Mark V armor is the highlight of this film – especially when you see how it transforms from a suitcase.
Thor – Thor gets back Mjölnir
When the god of thunder was seemingly dead, we suddenly see Mjölnir flying back to him, letting us know that he’s finally worthy of wielding it. An epic moment that’s for sure.
Captain America: The First Avenger – The last scene (and the post-credits scene)
While we got awesome World War II action from the entire movie, the last scene where Capt wakes up in the future and meeting Nick Fury might be our favorite highlight – along with the post-credits scene of course.
Marvel’s The Avengers – Assemble
This is it – the moment we’ve all been waiting for. We finally see all the Avengers in one heroic shot that’s made even better by an awesome score.
Iron Man 3 – Pepper saves Tony (twice)
The third Iron Man film may have had its own problems, but the time when Pepper Potts ended up saying Tony was a favorite moment for us, letting you know that even superheroes need some saving.
Thor: The Dark World – Frigga’s funeral
The murder of Thor’s mother Frigga by the Dark Elf Malekith was a painful scene, but the funeral that followed may be one of the best scenes I’ve seen in the franchise.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier – The Winter Soldier attacks
This is my favorite fight scene (along with the elevator scene) in the entire movie. Captain America went from flashy superhero to a more grittier and modern tone. The fight scenes are almost brutal, and even Black Widow got shot, which goes to show how scary and awesome that scene was.
Guardians of the Galaxy – ‘We Are Groot’
The movie was fresh, funny and full of heart. Near the climax when all of them are about to die, Groot sacrificed himself so the others may live. Despite us knowing that a new tiny Groot has survived and is starting to grow, it’s even more heartbreaking to know that the Groot in the first movie was actually the father.
Any other moments from these movies you think should be on the list? Give it a shotout in the comments below – and stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow!
Avengers: Endgame opens this Wednesday in cinemas across the UAE.
