Technology is already providing a safe haven against the coronavirus

Sometimes tech can be your best friend.

The coronavirus outbreak is turning into a serious situation that has already infected and killed hundreds and thousands of people around the world. Countries have also started shutting down schools and restricting entry along with advising people to avoid traveling until the situation is contained.

This means that most people are now stuck in homes waiting for the situation to get better – but thanks to technology, staying at home isn’t as boring as you thought it would be. Think about it, with today’s advancements you can still watch movies, socialize with friends or even work from home as long as you have the right tools.

Messaging apps have made it possible to talk with your friends and family no matter where they are. VOIP services are still prohibited in the UAE though, but there has been a call to lift the ban considering how great the benefits will be. Hungry? Why not use the numerous delivery apps so you don’t have to go out – or even do your grocery shopping online and have it delivered straight to your door. Particularly here in Dubai, existing services for cleaning or even laundry are already in place that can help ease your daily tasks without getting out of your house.

Eager to watch a movie? There’s already Netflix, Starz Play or Shahid. It may not show the latest blockbusters, but the hours of movie and TV content means you don’t have to leave your couch.

Internet speeds have become faster over the years. Here in the UAE, a basic connection can already give you 256Mbps that is more than enough to offer all the internet speed that you may need.

What’s funny is that these conveniences were initially seen as negative, considering that it makes you lazier to get up and do the things yourself. But in a time where a virus gets spread as easily as walking outside and shaking hands, staying inside might be a good option for now.

How did technology help you in ways that you didn’t expect? We’d love to hear your stories – let us know in the comments!
