Top 10 useless (and sometimes awesome) apps

November 18, 2014

The app stores from both Android and iOS (and even Windows Phone and BlackBerry) are home to the most awesome apps available. Here are some useless, yet admittedly fun ones.

We’ve already curated a plethora of Top 10s highlighting the best apps and games available. However, there are some apps that defy the meaning of entertainment and offer something well, interesting. First look at some of these apps and it may look useless – but in fact, they can offer endless entertainment and sometimes be awesome at the same time. Maybe that’s the reason these apps were a hit. Check out our list of Top 10 useless (and sometimes awesome apps)

Yo

It’s that simple. That is the tagline of this super simple app that lets you send messages to your friends. Oh and in case you forgot, you can only send the word ‘Yo!’ It became so successful that it earned some serious financial backing from investors. Now that’s something to ‘Yo!’ about! It’s free and currently available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

iBeer

This seemingly simple app makes your smartphone look like a glass of ice cold beer – complete with bubbles. Just press a button and you can fill up your mug… er, smartphone with beer and you can start drinking. There is also an option where you can connect the app to another user and you can virtually share a mug by ‘pouring’ it to another app. I don’t think the ‘don’t drink and drive’ rule applies here. Available for free (an ad free version is also available for $0.99) on iOS and Android.

Zips Lite

Love zippers? Then this app from developer Jake Landon is for you! Well, it is basically only a virtual zipper than you can zip and unzip to your liking. Contrary to popular belief, some people find it entertaining. I must admit, I did spend a few minutes with the app after installing it. Just make your real zipper isn’t open after using it. Available for free on iOS.

iFrenchKiss

I honestly don’t know what to do with this app yet the 12,000 downloads it got meant it has got to be something special – right? iFrenchKiss is an app that well, tells you how you French Kiss (we’ll spare you the NFSW-ish details) and gives you a score on how you perform. Just let me know if you’ve installed the app so I would know not to use your smartphone anymore. Available for free on iOS.

Toilet Paper Dragging

Bathroom breaks can be a bore. But thanks to smartphones, you would barely notice time slipping by when you’re playing a game or browsing the internet. Why not add Toilet Paper Dragging to your games list? It works just likes how it sounds – you basically roll and endless sheet of toilet paper and it will tell you how fast you are rolling. Seems like a bore at first, but it somehow found a place on my smartphone. Available for free only for iOS, but there’s an Android alternative you can check out.

Stacheify

It’s November – or Movember depending on how you would want to spend it. I don’t normally grow a beard that fast so joining the Movember movement won’t really yield results for me. Until I found Stacheify the app that can give you a mustache. With it, I can now finally take selfies with a full grown beard and join the cause. Good thing I don’t need to shave it at the end of the month. Available for free on iOS.

Pocket Whip

Remember that episode from The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon insults Leonard with an app that makes the sound of a whip? Well here’s the app you can install on your phone where you can make whip sounds by simply waving your phone. You may just have to use at the right time so the punchline will be perfect. Available for free on iOS and Android.

IFart

Flatulence is never fun, well it is when it’s an app. Dubbed as the ‘premier fart application’, iFart has a selection of (hopefully not pre-recorded) farts you can play out loud. Play a prank on your friends or if you simply like the sound (I’m not judging you), you can take is free app for a spin. Available for iOS and Android.

Farm Milk the Cow

Ever dreamed of milking a cow but was too afraid to approach one? Well, Farm Milk the Cow is the app for you! Virtual udders let you squeeze out milk on to a pan much like how milking a real cow is. Available for free on iOS and Android.

Great Lightsaber

The next Star Wars movie won’t be out until next year but you can prepare yourself for the awakening of the force with this uber awesome lightsaber app. It’s a virtual lightsaber that includes all the hums and fancy sound effects you’ve come to know with it. Train well, my young Padawan. Available for free on iOS and an alternate Android app is also available.
