How to: Creating a custom ringtone for your iPhone
February 14, 2018

It’s a long process, but it’s possible.

If you’re an iPhone owner then you must know the struggles of using your own custom ringtone on the device. Sure, you can always download iPhone-ready ringtones online but what if you want to do your own? Here’s a step-by-step guide.

To do this you would need the latest version of  iTunes installed on your PC or Mac.

Step 1: Find your favorite song or tune (in MP3 if possible) and choose which part of the song you want to use. Since iTunes can only use ringtones that are less than 30 seconds, you may need to cut the audio file (you can use the free app Audacity to do this).

Step 2: Once you have your 30-second file, add it to your current music library on iTunes. Right-click select ‘Convert to AAC’. This will convert the MP3 file to a format with a .m4a extension.

Step 3: Rename that file to .m4r so iTunes can recognize it as a ringtone file when you add it again on iTunes.

Step 4: Check and see if the file is under the Tones tab in iTunes. Once it’s added you can now sync it to your iPhone.

Now go enjoy that new ringtone!
