There is a way to customize your home screen icons.
Since the launch of iOS 14, Shortcuts (previously known as Siri Shortcuts) allowed users to take advantage of various automation supported by the app. While that can be useful for certain tasks, users have also utilized the app in customizing their iPhone/iPad home screens.
Sure, it’s not an official way to theme your device, but just in case you’re tired of the same old boring icons on your home screen, you can use Shortcuts to customise your home screen – just follow these steps:
Launch the Shortcuts app (it’s already pre-installed on your iPhone/iPad)
Tap the ‘+’ sign on the top right corner to create a new shortcut
In the New Shortcut window, tap Add Action
Look for Open App and select which app you want to open with that Shortcut
Tap the three-dot menu on the upper right corner and select Add to Home Screen
Here, you can customize what your shortcut will look like
Use the File browser to select an icon you want to use (you can easily search online for any icon that you want to use)
Once you selected your icon and create a name, tap Add
The created Shortcut will now appear on your home screen. You can hide the original app in the App Library and use this to launch the app
The only downside is that you would need to create shortcuts for each app on your smartphone if you want to change them all. But until Apple introduces a theming option for iOS, this is the best solution for now.
