How to turn off Netflix’s autoplay feature
February 10, 2020

Yes, we’re just as annoyed as you are.

There’s a good chance that you’ve experienced this one annoyance with Netflix – that autoplay feature that automatically plays a preview or a scene of a movie while it’s highlighted on the menu. Playing the video is generally fine, but the sudden sound output sometimes caught people by surprise especially when your TV is set to a high volume.

Fortunately, Netflix has answered the pleas of users and has finally added the option to turn off autoplay previews on the homepage. This applies when viewing Netflix on a web browser or through a smart TV app – but turning off the autoplay setting would require you to log in to Netflix using a web browser on your phone or computer.

This is how you do it:

Login to Netflix using a web browser on your smartphone or computer.

Tap the side menu and look for your profile on the upper left corner (on a desktop browser it should be on the upper right-hand side). Choose your own profile and tap ‘Account’.

Scroll all the way down and look for the ‘My Profile’ menu and select ‘Playback settings’.

Once there, uncheck the option that says ‘Autoplay previews while browsing on all devices’.

Give it a few minutes before the setting takes place on all your devices.
