6 things we love about Samsung’s Galaxy S6 line

April 16, 2015

As far as first impressions go, the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge pretty much have the wow factor on lock.

It’s not everyday we get this impressed by a smartphone’s overall build and quality; and this isn’t an attempt to overhype the device. The S6 is indeed worthy of the attention and anticipation that was awaiting it prior to and after its launch. We had the pleasure to check out the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge today in Beirut at a press conference held by the South Korean heavyweight.

Refined Build

Upon holding the phone for the first time, you can automatically notice the enhanced build quality. The fusion of metal with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is a match made in smartphone material heaven. At just 6.8mm thin, the metal bod beauty sports a 5.1” QHD 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display. Some design changes take on a new focus on details. For instance, Samsung has moved the headphone jack from the top (where it’s usually been on past Galaxy S series handsets) to the bottom of the smartphone. The speaker has been moved too, from the back to the bottom of the phone.

Premium Storage

Some things haven’t changed, staying true to the flagship device’s main features like the brand’s renowned oval-shaped home bottom on the bottom front of the phone, and still you can find an ample amount of storage. Options range from 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB (32GB is currently the version available in the Lebanese market).

First-class UI

Besides the fact this phone actually comes with 557ppi, it gives others a run for their money with a high contrast ratio for rich black and white colors. Its super-bright mode feature turns on automatically when you step outdoors. TouchWiz is still on this one, with bright colors and polished apps, while unnecessary dialog boxes have been removed. You can notice flatter icons, too, making for a better appeal.

Cool Cams

As for picture quality, we all know Samsung is not one to disappoint, especially with taking on the selfie trend right now with the improved 5MP front-facing cam tagged with faster shutter speed. As for the rear cam, 16MP make this phone a happy snapper with an F1.9 aperture, meaning it has 34% more capability for low light ability than the S5. Automatic tracking mode also follows moving objects without the need to refocus. Fast and slow motion have been added to the video app, as well.

Powerful Battery

Even though the battery space is smaller this time around and the battery is locked in, the S6 still comes with a custom processor that actually makes it more efficient in processing and therefore easier to complete certain tasks. Double wireless charging also rides along, and you get an uber fast average charging time. Winner.

Color Charmer

The S6 comes in four chic colors: White Pearl, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz, and Black Sapphire. Its shades actually change slightly when exposed to different lighting conditions due to the shiny exterior. This effect gives it an even greater facade of luxury.

Needless to say, we think Samsung has proven its latest campaign’s slogan to be true: “Next is Now”.
