An OS X Tablet? Yes please!
August 3, 2014

Modbook released a touch-based tablet running on a full version of Apple’s Mac OS X.

Apple’s iconic MacBooks have set the benchmark for design and function. But the company has yet to release a full touch based MacBook that you can use as a tablet. Maybe Apple’s strategy is different and the company would prefer to concentrate on the iPad as their primary tablet.

Other users have also started modding some Apple products to suit their own needs, adding various functionalities and cases to make the product more ‘unique’. One such mod includes turning the Retina MacBook Pros into full touch screen tablets – just like what the company ModBook did.

TechFaster reports that if you own an existing MacBook Pro, you can simply take the device to them and will take care of the modding process which normally takes 7-10 days. They are also selling pre-modded MacBook Pros you can purchase right away.

They have also gone to Kickstarter to launch the Modbook Pro X, a full touch screen tablet, and will also come with a keyboard and a digitizer pen with 2,048 pressure levels. It’s still basically a high-end MacBook Pro but modded to work and perform like a tablet.

Note that if ever you decide to have your MacBook modded you are voiding all types of warranty that comes with it. But I must admit the Modbook Pro X definitely looks good. Check out the Kickstarter campaign here.
