Android Q might change the back button that users are complaining about
April 24, 2019

New gesture-based navigation will be introduced.

Android Pie may have introduced a new way to navigate your smartphone, though that new function did not exactly sit well with most users, who were already used to having the home, back and recent buttons from earlier Android buttons.

But it looks like Android Q will be implementing another new navigation method – gestures. If you have used an iPhone, then you’d be familiar with the gesture-based navigation that simply lets you swipe from the left to go back to the previous screen. Digging through the Android Q betas has shown some code the Google could introduce it as a new feature in the future.

On iOS it works well, but on Android, it could probably be a minor problem especially with apps using Material Design since accessing menus would also require you to swipe from the left. But since it’s in beta there’s a good chance that Google will improve the function, though we don’t know if it will actually appear on the final version of Android Q.
