No need for an Apple TV.
When you talk about the Apple ecosystem, it usually consists of only their own products. That changed earlier this year when Apple has announced that third-party smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony and the like will now get support for the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2.
True to their statement, Samsung has added support for Apple’s ecosystem on its current line of smart TVs and it looks like LG is now rolling the update to their own line of Smart TVs as well.
LG did say that only the 2019 TVs will have support for AirPlay 2, meaning that older models, unfortunately, won’t be able to enjoy Apple support on their screens. The addition of AirPlay 2 support means that iPhone, iPad and Mac users can now mirror content from their devices to LG’s Smart TV, along with the addition of an Apple TV app where you can purchase and view movies along with other existing subscriptions.
Additionally, LG is also supporting HomeKit with the new update rolling out to its screens, meaning that your TV will be able to control various other appliances in your home like lights and other appliances.
Expect the update to roll out sometime in the next few weeks.
