Audeze LCD-i3: The pinnacle of in-ear audio?
September 15, 2019

At a relatively great price too

The Audeze story finds origins in specialized flexible circuits created for NASA, and the manufacturer has consistently broken new grounds on many fronts. The iSINE 10 was truly pathbreaking, bringing planar magnetic diaphragms into an in-ear form factor. Many well-received iterations later, we have the Audeze LCD-i3 wireless earphones.

Continuing the open back form factor of the line, Audeze mentions that these earphones deliver superior sound without the need for a separate headphone amplifier. The successor to the iSINE 20 headphones features a magnesium housing and special grille design, which reduces unwanted resonance.  Inside the buds are low impedance 30mm planar magnetic drivers, which offer better audio resolution that their predecessors, delivering up to 130dB of powerful sound.  Design-wise, as with the line, these earbuds truly stand out, with open-back grille-clad housings, and ear hooks that keep them securely in place.

The LCD-i3 will ship with three cables: a 3.5mm cable, Audeze’s Cipher Lightning cable that features in-line DAC and amplifier with AAC support. For Android users, the around-neck Cipher Bluetooth module offers in-line DAC and amplifier with aptX and aptX HD codec support.

Opt to listen wirelessly, and the Bluetooth 5.0 chipset, with integrated support for aptX and aptX HD means you’ll get low-latency 24-bit wireless audio optimized for even the most discerning ear, as Audeze puts it. Of course, you also have the option for wired listening too, with the inclusion of a Lightning cable and a standard 3.5mm cable.

Audeze’s LCD-i3 will retail at $899, and is now available at Dubai Audio. Dubai Audio, of course is the UAE’s one-stop shop for hi-end audio wizardry, and the distributor for Audeze in the Middle East.
