I remember the first time I saw the Beosound Edge from Bang & Olufsen. A pre-scheduled demo session at IFA 2018, and the first thing that crossed my mind was how incredibly ingenious it was. And playful. And simple. A total reworking of the order, so to speak. One of those times you come away with a total smile on your face.
Yesterday B&O launched the Beosound Edge in the region, a new powerful wireless speaker for the home that promises to completely reimagine how we live with sound. Come to the actual usage of the circular device, and proximity sensors detect when you get close to the speaker, discreetly illuminating the aluminum touch interface. Adjusting the sound is rather magical as you gently roll Beosound Edge forwards and backwards to increase and decrease the volume. Let go, and it gently rolls back to its original position.
This is one surprisingly powerful device, with a 10” woofer bass driver on one side, while both sides of the speaker enjoy a dedicated 4” midrange and a ¾” tweeter. The device also debuts the world’s first Active Bass Port, a very intriguing concept which unites two classical concepts of loudspeaker design, the so-called “closed-box” design and the “ported design”. When playing at lower volumes, it is using the closed cabinet principle for the most accurate sound reproduction, and as you turn up the volume the Active Bass Port opens to output more energized bass.
Anders Buchman, Global Senior Product Manager at B&O hosted the event. Anders also presented the Bronze Collection, a limited-edition collection of the company’s most popular multiroom speakers. The Bronze Collection all about alluring dark, naturally warm hues, character and vivid sound to the modern home.
Beosound Edge is available on www.bang-olufsen.com/edge and in Bang & Olufsen stores end September 2018 at a recommended retail price of AED 14,530
