CES 2015: Check out Google Cast for audio

January 6, 2015

Especially made for audiophiles.

While the announcement itself wasn’t made at CES, Google quietly announced the availability of Google Cast for audio. Think of it as a Google Chromecast made especially for streaming audio.

Just like Chromecast, you can simply tap the cast button so you can instantly stream music to any speaker that is connected to the same network. With this, Google is now directly competing with Apple’s own AirPlay service that does the same thing for its own line of iOS devices. The good thing about this is that just like the regular Chromecast, Google Cast for audio is supported on any app whether it’s on Android or iOS.

One thing that Google added on their blog is that it can also stream music from the cloud – though we are not sure if the content will be supported here since the Google Play Store in this region is basically just available for apps and not audio and video.

Sony, LG and HEOS have already pledged to make ‘cast-ready’ speakers and will be rolling them out later in the year. Check out the video and tell us what you think.
