CES 2015: LG set to design tech for Mercedes-Benz’s cars

December 29, 2014

Oh, they’re self-driving cars as well.

LG has just announced that it will be partnering with Mercedes-Benz in designing the tech for their upcoming line of self-driving cars. LG’s own Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) technology will be utilized in future models of the German automaker.

ADAS basically consists of a camera system that’s designed much like the human eye and detects objects while driving and can instantly alert you of any potential danger you might face. You initially have control on the wheel but just in case the system detects a potential danger and you haven’t responded, the system will take over to drive automatically.

Other features include detecting the car of it is staying inside the lane and dims headlights when facing oncoming traffic. LG will also design the car’s audio and video entertainment system. In addition to that, biometric systems that are scattered throughout the car will also monitor the driver’s eye movement and alertness, which can be a good way to protect drivers who fall asleep on the wheel.

A prototype of the technology will be revealed next week at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. Stay tuned as we give more updates from the show.
