Face ID and 4K HDR support.
An exclusive report by 9to5Mac has mentioned that Apple’s new iPad Pros might come with a bunch of interesting new features. The event, which is scheduled to happen sometime this month, will introduce a new generation of iPad Pros, including a new 11-inch size that will replace the 10.5-inch released last year.
Most of the details about the new iPad were already leaked thanks to the recent iOS 12.1 beta which has referenced the upcoming tablets.
9to5Mac mentioned that reliable sources have provided more information about the upcoming tablets, including support for Face ID which pretty confirms an all-screen iPad.
The new iPad Pros will now have edge-to-edge displays and will have Face ID as its main mode of biometric security. Unlike the iPhone XS though, the new iPad Pros will not have a notch since the bezels will still be thick enough to house the TrueDepth camera system that enables Face ID. Additionally, it was mentioned that Face ID on the iPad Pro can be used either in portrait or landscape mode.
One interesting tidbit is that the new iPad Pros will now have support for 4K HDR not on the display itself (even if it supports HDR) but through a new USB-C port.
A new version of the Apple Pencil is also scheduled to be announced which should pair the same way the AirPods pair with the iPhone.
Lastly, the new iPad Pros will have a new Smart Connector which will be its primary connection for accessories like the Smart Keyboard.
More details should be available in the next few weeks.
