The new mini LED TVs will launch next year.

LG’s line of TVs is expanding beyond OLED. This year, the company is introducing TVs that will feature Mini LED technology. This new line up, called QNED, will be marketed as a high-end variant on its current TV line.

Mini LEDs are used as the main light source for these new displays, which offer improved brightness and contrast. LG’s QNED line up will include 10 new 4K and 8K models with screen sizes of up to 86-inches.

These TVs will also be the first to combine quantum dot and NanoCell technology in one display, allowing it to display accurate colors with the LED backlight offering deeper blacks and brighter whites. Additionally, the screens also support a 120Hz refresh rate, making it compatible with next-gen gaming consoles like the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S.

LG’s Mini LED backlighting technology includes almost 30,000 tiny LEDs that help produce a peak brightness of 1,000,000:1 when it is paired with 2,500 dimming zones and using advanced local dimming technology. The result is incredible HDR that brings more lifelike images.

“Our new QNED series is a premium home entertainment option that expands and improves the LCD TV space and gives consumers another terrific viewing choice,” said Nam Ho-jun, senior vice president of R&D at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “These TVs deliver an experience that set them apart from other LCD TVs and speaks to our commitment to innovation and pushing the standard forward.”

LG’s new QNED TVs will be on display at the LG virtual exhibition booth starting next month for CES 2021.
