More than 10,000 cabs will be fitted with free Wi-Fi.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) have just announced a strategic partnership that will allow free Wi-Fi access on all Dubai taxis. The announcement was made during GITEX 2018 that’s currently on its last day at the Dubai World Trade Center.
It was mentioned that the new Wi-Fi service will aim to bring more happiness to riders and make the taxi ride a more enjoyable experience.
“In line with our efforts to rank Dubai as the smartest and happiest city in the world, we are pleased to sign this agreement with RTA to provide smart services and Wi-Fi technology onboard taxis in Dubai,” said Osman Sultan, CEO, EITC: “This initiative is an important step in our efforts to support the UAE Government’s Vision 2021 for providing accessible modern telecommunication services,” he added.
“According to the agreement, du will start fitting the required devices to taxis. All fleet vehicles of the six franchise companies operating in Dubai will be covered by the service within one year from the date of signing this agreement,” said Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
More than 10,000 taxis in Dubai will soon have free Wi-Fi, in addition to about 400 hotspots available in the city that includes the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram and various shopping centers.
Aside from the free Wi-Fi service, a Wi-Fi premium option will also be available if you want unlimited downloading that comes at an affordable price.
