App will let you make free voice and video calling over Wi-Fi.
Etisalat has just launched a new mobile app called C’Me, a new communication tool that will let you send messages and even make voice and video calls over Wi-Fi. The app is currently available on iOS and Android devices.
C’Me will allow you to make calls to anyone from your address book, regardless if they have installed the application or not. This includes national and international numbers. The app is available on smartphones and even tablets.
C’Me will be available in English and Arabic and will be exclusive to all Etisalat users – including prepaid and postpaid subscribers. You can also use the app to make calls over a cellular network, which will be charged as a normal voice call. Video calls will be charged at 30 fils per minute on postpaid and 36 fils per minute on prepaid. As mentioned, all calls over Wi-Fi will be free. A new wave window feature is also included in the app that lets you see a small video of the person you are talking to whenever you are making a call.
Etisalat also mentioned that calls made over Wi-Fi will be of high definition quality. “Our customers will have a lot of fun using C’Me. It offers a great video experience, which means we can at last actually see the person we are communicating with, whether it is in a call or messaging setting. Users will enjoy video calling in high quality. Plus, we have an exciting roadmap for the app such that in coming months our customers will experience lots more features and benefits,” said Khaled El Khouly, Chief Marketing Officer of Etisalat.
This puts C’Me in direct competition with existing VOIP services like Skype though most of the time the service is blocked here in the UAE. C’Me could technically provide a better service since the bandwidth on this app won’t be throttled. Time will if the app will be a hit or a miss.
