Google I/O 2021 confirmed to be another virtual event
April 11, 2021

Expect new software and hardware announcements.

The annual Google I/O developer event has been confirmed to return as a virtual online-only format this year similar to what happened in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. Happening on May 18-20, the event will free for everyone to attend, and focus on new hardware and software announcements plus workshops and online sessions.

The announcement of Google I/O 2021 was confirmed through a recent cryptic puzzle that the company has released a few days ago. Google will likely show off more details about Android 12, which has released several developer betas in the past few weeks.

Along with that, Google is also expected to announce the budget-friendly Pixel 5a. The company was originally quiet about its next smartphone, but after rumors that it will no longer be releasing it has inadvertently confirmed the device when it said the rumors weren’t true. Many again expressed disappointment since it was mentioned that the Pixel 5a will only be sold in the US and Japan.

Google I/O 2021’s announcement comes after Apple’s confirmation of WWDC 2021, which will also take place as an online event this June.
