Two winners hail from the Middle East.

The winners of the 2020 iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) have just been revealed. Now in its 13th year, IPPAWARDS saw the submission of thousands of photographs shot on iPhones that came from all over the world. The chosen winners also showcased different aspects and techniques on the images that were shot – from powerful worldviews, vast landscapes, and even portrait images.

The Grand Prize Winner, who also won Photographer of the Year Award goes to Dimpy Bhalotia. The street photographer from the UK won the competition with her image titled Flying Boys. Along with that, top-three winners on 18 additional categories have been awarded to photographers from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Two winners came from the Middle East: Mona Jumaan from Bahrain who won first place for ‘Portrait’ and Saif Hussain from Iraq who won third place in the ‘Photographer of the Year’ category. Mona’s image, titled ‘Beautiful Isolation’ (see above), was shot during a photography tour in Morocco. Saif’s photo is titled ‘Shiekh Of Youth’ (see below), depicting a portrait of an elderly man.

Mona expressed honor in the award, which is actually her second time in winning the IPPAWARDS. “The feeling is as gratifying as the first time around. Taking part in the IPPAWARDS allows me to get the right exposure I need as a photographer. It’s a great platform to meet other amazing photographers, learn from their experiences, and explore new photography perspectives,” she added.

Saif praised the platform as a way to show support to photographers, and was hoping to win the IPPAWARDS someday – now he can cross that off his list.  “The world is changing everyday and smartphones make photography more accessible to everyone. Using my iPhone allows me to instantly see and capture the natural reactions of people in great quality accuracy. Without my iPhone I wouldn’t be in this position, a photographer who is being recognized with this reputable award,” he said.
