Disappearing messages will soon come to the messaging app.

A recent beta for WhatsApp may have hinted that it is bringing another Snapchat feature to the app – disappearing messages. The Facebook-owned WhatsApp is currently one of the most popular messaging clients in the world, with more than 1 billion registered users.

Just like Snapchat, users can send messages in the form of a text, video or image to a recipient and give a specific time until it expires. After the timer, the message will automatically be deleted. The feature will apply to both individual and group chats.

The screenshot above (courtesy of @WABetaInfo) does give an insight as to how the Disappearing Messages feature will look like – though you only have two choices for timed messages: 5 seconds and 1 hour.

It is worth noting though that this feature has only appeared on a developer build of WhatsApp, so it might take a while before it rolls out to everyone – or at least if they decide to.

Would you like this WhatsApp feature to roll out to the public? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
