Facebook is developing its own virtual assistant
April 18, 2019

The question is will you be using it?

A report from CNBC mentioned that Facebook is planning to introduce its own virtual assistant to compete with Alexa, Siri, Cortana, and Google Assistant. It was said that development for the project has started early last year.

Facebook’s AR and VR group are said to be responsible for the virtual assistant project, who are also responsible for hardware works on the Facebook-owned Oculus VR headsets. Facebook was also said to have been contacting smart speaker supply chains in hopes of adding support for Facebook’s own virtual assistant.

Facebook hasn’t said anything about the news – so we may have to wait until the company issues an official statement. The virtual assistant is also being planned to be included in the company’s Portal video calling device, though consumers weren’t so keen on the device especially after recent privacy issues have bugged the social media site.

Would you be using Facebook’s own virtual assistant once it launches? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
