For the love of a fine, local wine: log on to 209

October 4, 2016

There’s nothing more gratifying than purchasing a bottle of home-grown, local wine, to serve as a worthy reminder that Lebanon is teeming with refined tastes. And in the spirit of digital convenience, a service has been curated and now freshly launched, enabling you to effortlessly buy any bottle you fancy by logging on to the online portal: www.209LebaneseWine.com.

A comprehensive online platform has been designed with the connoisseur in mind, but works just as well for the social drinker, giving you or virtually anybody who logs in the benefit of being able to browse a myriad selection of local, Lebanese wine, so you are never left strapped for choice, whatever the occasion. But it goes deeper than that.

The service – which is named after the Pantone reference of the color shade of red wine – brings on an educated change in consumer behavior through a mix of ecommerce channels and experiential assets, by forging a virtual connection with a Wine Truck, Wine Club and Wine Blog.

The service’s name 209 derives its inspiration from the pantone color reference of red wine, and prompts a novel approach to purchasing fine wines by adding a thematic twist to the process. 209 is an online, one-stop-shop which populates virtually every wine brand in Lebanon under one roof, as opposed to limiting the consumer to whatever is available in stock at the supermarket or nearest liquor store, while also educating the consumer, to ensure the choice is on its mark.

“The goal of launching 209 is to democratize the consumption of Lebanese wine locally and internationally – educate the consumer on different wine producing areas and grape varieties, encourage exploration and help them confidently choose a bottle of Lebanese wine,” quips proud 209 founder Selim Yasmine, adding to say that “209 is built around 4 key values, choice, reliability, convenience and guidance.”

209 rounds up 209 local wineries, giving the browser access to practically every available Lebanese wine under one virtual roof. And while this could prove intimidating to the novice wine drinker who is equally enthralled with wine, but doesn’t know where to start, the service goes with the flow of ensuring customer satisfaction by informing the buyer of what is available, while making recommendations to ensure s/he lands on a preferred choice. A powerful search and recommendation engine has been put into effect, serving as an online waiter of sorts, and with whom you can consult using a series of filters, such as budget and occasion. The search is further enhanced with an array of supplementary media, including an educational blog and expert guides.

209’s wines are handled by knowledgeable wine experts who store, deliver and serve under optimal conditions. Furthermore, a convenient online payment and delivery-to-door system guarantees a Standard 2 days or an Express 24-hour delivery cycle, to any location throughout the nation.

The omnichannel showcases some of Lebanon’s finest wines, becoming an access point for consumers if not a hugely useful vending portal for the wineries, while in turn giving space for the local wine community to thrive. A points-system will be enacted, with referrals and social shares aplenty that can be redeemed to in turn buy more bottles.

Meet the 209 team at the Vinifest from October 5 – 8, at the Hippodrome of Beirut!
