October 26, 2020

Made for Planet9, Acer’s next-gen eSports platform.

Acer yesterday unveiled SigridWave, a new in-game live AI translator made for its eSports platform Planet9. SigridWave was made to utilize knowledge about different translations, with the ability to handle various gaming terminologies and jargons.

This was part of the announcement of updates that are coming to Planet9, an open community to help casual and competitive players with tools to take them to the net level. Planet9 also aims to equip teams with various tools along with organizing tournaments to also engage with fans. The platform was also made to help players connect with each other to improve their skills as they make their way to become a pro gamer.

SigridWave is integrated into Planet9’s desktop client, where it uses Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) to recognize utterances and then convert it to text. It passes through a Neural Machine Translation (NMT) technology to help understand terms that accompany gameplay. Acer said that SigridWave’s AI has been trained using over 1,000 hours of game-related speech so it can accurately make a translation.

Additionally, Acer has also added new features to Planet9 like Teams where you get to create a team to complete your roster, Clubs where you can connect with different groups and Tournaments that make organizing and hosting tournaments easy and seamless.
