The current pandemic was blamed for the delay.
Right before the PS5 was launched, a new installment of Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) was already teased, showcasing some ultra-realistic visuals that will start a new era in the popular driving simulation franchise. But it was initially expected to release this year, Sony has confirmed that GT7 will only be released sometime next year.
In an interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan on GQ, he highlighted the big games coming exclusively to the PS5 this year, including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in June and Horizon Forbidden West. Notably absent from the lineup was GT7, in which he explained that the game has been delayed to next year.
The ongoing pandemic was largely the reason why GT7 couldn’t make its original 2021 release date. “With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months,” Ryan said in the GQ interview.
It may be a while before we can enjoy another Gran Turismo title, but if that means we’re getting another great racing simulation then I don’t mind waiting. The previous installment, Gran Turismo Sport, was released for the PS4 last October 2017.
