What does this mean for the franchise?
PlayStation’s first-person shooter Killzone was one of the big hits for the platform and has amassed players all over the years. But just this weekend, PlayStation has confirmed that it has retired the official website for Killzone which may have put the final nail in the coffin on the franchise – for now at least.
Developer Guerilla hasn’t released any statements, but Sony did confirm the news saying that the official website has now been retired and anyone heading to Killzone.com will be redirected to PlayStation.com. They did say that this change won’t affect the online multiplayer modes, ranking data, and player statistics. However, you will no longer be able to create or even manage Killzone Shadow Fall clans.
“Thank you to Killzone.com’s many fans and visitors throughout the years for their enthusiasm and support,” a statement from the website reads.
Killzone was one of the launch games for the PlayStation when it launched in 2013 and while we never got a real follow up, it looks like the game isn’t on Guerilla’s priority list since they are sure to be busy prepping for the launch of Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to highly-acclaimed open-world RPG Horizon Zero Dawn.
