A new hardware model debuting in 2021.
A Taiwan-based newspaper seemingly confirmed that Nintendo is planning on introducing a new Switch console in the first quarter of 2021. The Economic Daily News said that production for the new Switch starts later this year and will feature a plethora of new upgrades.
Some of these upgrades include an improved higher quality display and ‘interactivity’. While we’re not sure how improved interactivity works, it could point to better Joy-Con controllers that famously had problems when the original Switch was launched a couple of years ago.
Details about an upgraded Switch has been rumored since the launch of the Switch Lite, where rumors said that a third model for ‘made for avid gamers’ is being planned. This could point to a new Pro version of the Switch that has faster and better hardware, including 4K support.
It was also reported that the new Switch was supposed to launch this year, but the ongoing pandemic also delayed production and release. Despite that, Nintendo saw a surge of Switch purchases this year thanks to recent lockdowns.
