Square Enix gives a peek at Marvel’s Avengers
June 25, 2020

The highly-anticipated game releases in September.

Square Enix has released new footage from Marvel’s Avengers War Table stream last night which gives us a new look at the upcoming game. The stream revealed new gameplay videos and trailers along with a special look at a hero mission led by Thor.

We also finally get more details about the game’s central villain, MODOK (aka Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing), an intelligent overlord of Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM) who was mutated into a supervillain. Comic book fans will definitely remember this villain as he will be the central antagonist in Marvel’s Avengers.

The stream also revealed how the game’s War Zone Missions work, along with a peek at how powerful the Avengers can become if they work as a team. The War Zone Missions are team-based but they can be played solo or with an AI hero companion or in a co-op group of up to four players.

You can check out the replay above, which also showcases a deeper look at how the story for the game will be. Crystal Dynamics said that while they try to make this game as unique as possible, they’ve also included different elements from the comic books and movies that eager fans can look out for.

You can also unlock costumes for each Avenger, each of which is drawn from the different iterations of the characters in pop culture over the past few years. This includes Iron Man’s suit from the 2014 Original Sin storyline, or Thor’s Donald Blake identity, which is a nod to an alias of Thor’s who first appeared in 1962’s Journey into Mystery issue 83.

As previously reported, players who purchase Marvel’s Avengers on PS4 and Xbox One will get the game for free when they upgrade to a PS5 or an Xbox Series X when it launches. The game will also support cross-play on the PS4 and the PS5 as well as the Xbox One and the Xbox Series.

Marvel’s Avengers will also launch on PC and Stadia on September 4.
