The Nintendo Switch upgrade everyone wants might come this year

March 4, 2021

It will come with a 7-inch OLED display.

After the runaway success of the Switch and the more affordable Switch Lite, word has it is that Nintendo is preparing to release a new Switch sometime this year. A report from Bloomberg says that the new Nintendo Switch could have a new OLED display.

With rumors pointing to a release date later this year, the new Switch will reportedly have a new 7-inch OLED display that will be made by Samsung. This will be larger than the current Switch’s screen that tops out at 6.2-inches. The current Switch has an LCD-based touchscreen and while it was decent enough to showcase games, we wish it could be better. The OLED screen of the new Switch could still have the same 720p resolution, but the upgraded internals could mean that it can support 4K displays when docked.

Despite being in the same league as the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X which of course feature more powerful hardware, the Switch has found its own success thanks to the Switch’s portability and the abundance of high-quality games.

Nintendo is tight-lipped about the rumors and is instead focusing on upcoming releases this year which include Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Mario Gulf: Super Rush, and New Pokemon Snap.
