A toned-down version of the Xbox Series X.
Most of us are already pumped with the upcoming release of the next-generation consoles, but it looks like the Xbox Series X isn’t the only console that will be released by Microsoft. A leak circulating online revealed that the company is also working on an ‘Xbox Series S’ console that will come at a cheaper price.
The existence of the Xbox Series S was revealed when developers found out that you can enable a new mode on the Xbox Series X development kit that will change the performance profile. This was done so that games can be tested on a second console with slightly lower hardware.
Reports said that the Xbox Series S will have an underclocked CPU along with around 8GB of RAM – half of what the Xbox Series X offers at 16GB. It was also said that this Xbox Series variant will be a digital-only version, meaning that it won’t have a 4K Blu-ray drive.
Nothing is known about the design, but Reddit user ‘jiveduder‘ has given us an idea on how the cheaper console will look like. More details should be revealed in the next few months leading to the Xbox’s release near the holiday season.
