Confirmed by both Du and Etisalat.
iPhone XS users in the UAE have something to look forward to at the end of the month as Etisalat and Du have both confirmed that eSIM support for the latest iPhones is coming.
Announced during the first of GITEX 2018 which is currently taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, eSIM will allow the iPhone XS to work with another physical SIM card that would enable dual SIM capability.
eSIM, also known as embedded SIM, forgoes the use of a physical SIM card to enable cellular connectivity on a device. eSIM has been around for years and has been implemented on other Apple devices like the iPad and the Apple Watch. The iPhone XS is the first iPhone to have support for eSIM.
Etisalat was the first to have eSIM compatibility a few months ago with the release of the Apple Watch Cellular in the country.
It was also revealed that 5G will also be launched in the country by early next year – though you would need a new device to take advantage of the new speeds.
