ICYMI: YouTube gets a new logo
August 30, 2017

A new yet familiar design.

In case you were busy the past few hours, you may have missed YouTube debuting its brand new logo. The iconic red play button that house the ‘Tube’ text has now moved to the side. It’s a subtle change but something that will be immediately noticed by everyone.

Along with that, YouTube has started revamping the design of its website and mobile apps to a new and fresh look. The website now also reflects the Material Design present on most of Google’s website and on their Android operating system.

YouTube’s mobile apps also got updated to reflect new features including new speed controls and a nifty new way to watch videos captured vertically (most common with a mobile device). If you are watching a video that’s been shot vertically, then YouTube will now follow the player shape to the video that is playing, meaning that there no more black bars that will appear on the side.

The app updates start rolling out today, and the desktop redesign should start rolling out soon.
